kt cloud Joins 50MW Cheongna AI Data Center Project
kt cloud will participate in a 50-megawatt (MW) artificial intelligence (AI) data center project in Cheongna, Incheon.
kt cloud said Oct. 7 that it will join the Cheongna AI Data Center project as the design, build and operate (DBO) partner.
The Cheongna AI Data Center will span two basement levels and 11 floors above ground, with a power capacity of 50MW. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, with completion targeted for the first quarter of 2030.
kt cloud will handle data center design consulting, major mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) work, commissioning to verify reliability and operational performance, and operations after completion. Hyundai Engineering will serve as a joint construction contractor, handling architectural, civil engineering, facilities, landscaping and telecommunications work, as well as MEP construction.
According to the company, the data center will be designed as a hybrid facility capable of accommodating both AI infrastructure and general cloud demand. The AI zone, which will house high-density graphics processing unit (GPU) servers, will use direct-to-chip (D2C) liquid cooling. A separate cloud zone will be established for general-purpose cloud services. kt cloud also plans to deploy its proprietary Data Center Infrastructure Management System (DIMS), an integrated data center management solution.
However, there are some differences between the project details announced by kt cloud and those disclosed by Hyundai Engineering on the same day. kt cloud said the data center will have two basement levels and 11 above-ground floors and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2030, while Hyundai Engineering said it will have four basement levels and 11 above-ground floors and is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2029. Hyundai Engineering also disclosed the total project value at about 870 billion won.
