OpenAI looks to make data centers more palatable

OpenAI said Thursday it would avoid nondisclosure agreements in data center deals and ensure facilities don’t raise energy costs for residents, as tech scrambles to render the AI buildout more palatable to the public.

The policies are part of OpenAI’s attempts to set a new tone for AI policy discourse, including by rebranding data centers as “ compute campuses ” and seeking more community input, helping spawn a lucrative job market for “ data-center liaisons.”

AI safety advocates appear skeptical about the outreach, which comes amid rising global backlash: US voters opted to check data center construction nearly everywhere it appeared on the ballot this week, and anti-data center protests are planned for this weekend in Australia and several European countries.

Hon Hai Precision Industry reported unaudited consolidated revenue of NT$1,305.3 billion for October. The company said its cloud and networking products posted strong year-over-year growth on pull-in momentum for artificial intelligence products.

The Taiwan contract manufacturer, also known as Foxconn, posted the figure in its Nov. 5 monthly revenue report linked from the company press center.

The October print was up 45.73% from NT$895.7 billion in the same month a year earlier. The company put the year-over-year increase at NT$409.6 billion.

Year-to-date sales through October reached NT$8,975.1 billion, up 40.40% from NT$6,392.7 billion in the first ten months of 2025. That cumulative gain was NT$2,582.4 billion on the company's table.

The company reports the figures in units of NT$1,000. The text and chart restate those amounts in billions of New Taiwan dollars. The percentages are the company's own year-over-year rates, not Rackline arithmetic.

Hon Hai's investor-relations monthly revenues page still listed results only through September as of Nov. 5. September stood at NT$1,158.6 billion on that hub, which says its unaudited figures match those filed with the Taiwan Stock Exchange. October had not yet been added to the hub when the Nov. 5 company announcement went out.

Against that September print, October's NT$1,305.3 billion is up 12.66% month over month on Hon Hai's October monthly revenue report.

The announcement is labeled unaudited. Hon Hai's monthly hub reminds readers to treat the Taiwan Stock Exchange filings as the reference for the same unaudited series. The Nov. 5 press-center item carries the same October headline as the company sales table. The sales table gives totals only; Hon Hai's monthly revenue report also compares product-group performance without giving segment dollar amounts. Hon Hai did not convert the New Taiwan dollar totals into U.S. dollars, and this piece keeps the company's currency.

Anthropic may have to accept a lower valuation than the $1.5 trillion it had been targeting for its stock market debut, after a sharp tech sell-off spooked key investors, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The listing comes amid growing nervousness among investors about the huge sums being poured into AI. Three major investors who plan to take part in the offering told the Journal the valuation would likely need to be lowered, with one saying it could end up closer to $1 trillion.

The artificial intelligence company is aiming to hold its initial public offering the week of November 16 and had been expected to raise up to $100 billion, which would make it the largest IPO on record.

The listing comes amid growing nervousness among investors about the huge sums being poured into AI.

Three major investors who plan to take part in the offering told the Journal the valuation would likely need to be lowered, with one saying it could end up closer to $1 trillion.

Previous estimates had put the valuation at between $1.5 and $2 trillion.

Another investor raised the possibility that Anthropic could postpone the listing.

Scaling back the size of the offering is another possibility, the Journal said.

Anthropic did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.

The size of the deal and Anthropic's close business ties to Google, Amazon and Nvidia give its plans broad implications for markets and the economy.

Rival OpenAI has delayed its plans to trade on Wall Street until next year.

Companies in the Nasdaq composite lost $2.5 trillion in market value on Thursday as investors pulled back from AI bets.

Anthropic's listing had been expected to surpass the record set by SpaceX's IPO in June, which raised $86 billion.
