Taiwan’s government wants to build industrial parks in the United States, and it is starting big. The first project is a complex in Texas worth up to $4 billion.

The target isn’t the household names. It’s the smaller suppliers that keep companies like Nvidia, TSMC and Foxconn running, the firms most people have never heard of but every AI server quietly depends on.

What Taiwan is building

The plan is being led by Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin. It was announced on October 15, 2026.

Taiwan has already locked down land in Texas for the first park. That detail matters. Plenty of overseas investment pledges live and die as press releases, and having actual dirt under contract moves this one past the brochure stage.

The Texas complex is only the opening act. Additional sites are in the planning pipeline, with individual parks estimated to cost between $2 billion and $4 billion each.

The initiative is specifically aimed at firms that play critical roles in the semiconductor supply chain but lack the resources to go overseas independently. The barriers are largely about money and red tape: financing is hard to secure, and regulatory hurdles in a foreign country are expensive to clear.

The bigger trade deal behind it

The industrial parks sit inside a broader US-Taiwan trade agreement. Under that deal, Taiwan has committed to offering up to $250 billion in credit guarantees to support semiconductor investments in the US.

Texas is also not new territory for Taiwanese manufacturers. Wistron opened a $700 million plant in the state in July 2026, and that facility produces Nvidia AI systems.

The push also lines up with US policy that encourages manufacturers to onshore production and localize supply chains.

What this means

For smaller suppliers, the parks could lower the cost of entry into the US market considerably. Shared infrastructure and government backing may let firms that would never have expanded alone get a foothold near their biggest customers.

Execution is where the risks live. Industrial parks take years to build and fill, and suppliers still have to decide that US operating costs make sense for their margins.

The other variable is AI demand itself. The entire rationale assumes demand for AI hardware keeps climbing. If that appetite cools, the business case for parks costing $2 billion to $4 billion each gets harder to defend.

The things to watch: when ground breaks on the Texas site, which suppliers sign on as early tenants, and where the next parks get announced. The pace at which Taiwan draws on its credit guarantee commitment will also signal how seriously companies are taking the invitation.

SK hynix is accelerating its push into the global server market by putting forward next-generation memory solutions designed to overcome the limits of artificial intelligence infrastructure. Beyond simply supplying memory, the company’s strategy is to solidify its leadership in the AI era by demonstrating integrated solution capabilities that improve the efficiency of entire systems.

SK hynix said on Oct. 16 that it participated in the 'OCP (Open Compute Project) Global Summit,' held from Oct. 12 to 15 at the San Jose Convention Center in California, the United States, where it showcased next-generation memory technologies. At the event, which brought together IT and semiconductor companies from around the world, SK hynix devoted a substantial portion of its exhibition space to a 'system demo' section, underscoring its commitment to building a next-generation server ecosystem.

At the center of the exhibition was the second-generation 'CMM-DDR5' product based on the Compute Express Link (CXL) interface. The 256GB product features the CXL 3.2 standard and is characterized by bandwidth that is more than twice that of the previous generation. In particular, it improves energy efficiency by about 30%, making it a potential alternative for addressing the chronic power consumption problem at data centers.

CMM-DDR5 supports the use of a shared memory pool by multiple servers according to need. By enabling flexible allocation of limited memory resources, this helps maximize the efficiency of resource utilization across the entire system.

SK hynix also introduced the 'CMM-Ax' solution, which performs computing directly within memory. The technology dramatically reduces the power and cost burden on data centers by cutting down the process of data moving back and forth between the CPU and memory. Alongside this, the next-generation system 'MARS,' which integrates partner companies’ solutions into a single rack to improve efficiency, also drew attention from visitors.

Presentation sessions for technology sharing were also held at the site. Kim Ho-sik, vice president in charge of Memory System Research at SK hynix, and working-level staff explained in detail the structure of memory-centric server systems and the performance indicators of key technologies, emphasizing the company’s technology leadership.

SK hynix plans to continue technological innovation so that AI technology can keep advancing with memory at its center. The solutions unveiled at this summit are expected to establish themselves as core infrastructure for future high-performance computing and large-scale data centers.
